Etched glass is superior to a wire reticle because it's much more precise and offers easier target acquisition. The Mil Dot incorporates multiple aim points for both hold-over and hold-under, and the reticle offers 5 brightness levels of illumination in your choice of red or green. For a solid black reticle, simply turn off the illumination. Another way that etched glass reticles are superior to wire reticles is when they're illuminated. Etched glass shows illumination only on the reticle and it looks like the reticle is floating. With wire reticles you often notice a reflection of the illumination in the objective lens, which can be distracting when shooting.
